Well DAZ 4.9 is now released and all new content will be encrypted by the DAZ Connect platform. These are dark days indeed. I hope someone will find a way around the DRM

Yes, it will be interesting to see what the future holds. I believe Lyndsey for G3F is the first Daz Connect only content.
And just to be accurate, it isn’t ALL new content from Daz. How much has to be seen but for an unspecified time there will still be DIM and manual options available. But you can bet on the main figures being Daz Connect only.

If anybody is interested, I have installed the full 4.9 without having Daz Connect, or indeed an internet connection, and it went smoothly. I downloaded the manual install on my laptop, installed it on my desktop (disconnected from the net) and when I ran it I told it to work offline and never show those pages again. It never needed a serial or any info.
So you can install it and use it with all your current content with no worries. Do be aware that it tried to install both the program and the content library to the wrong location – so check where it wants to put itself. For me it tried to install over the beta public build and not my old 4.8.

I hope this is useful for some of you. I’m off to test my plug-ins now.

We will see if this DAZ Connect can have future, but I would say yes as many people prefer have everything in cloud and have look on Steam, many people and companies said, they will crash and burn and now have look, they’re biggest player

I agree new content Genesis 4 or what will comes, will be encrypted,if this does help against the piracy, hard to say,but hope so someone will be able to crack that which I still don’t think will be possible as Octane is still uncrackable which is shame

Regarding the new DS i will stay with 4,8 unless new content will require to update,I use IRAY,but now is so rare, almost all my renders are done in Poser or 3DS MAX where I export everything as OBJ and render there

One quick thing – Daz Connect doesn’t store any of your content in the ‘cloud’. It’s all downloaded and stored on your computer. The ‘cloud’ part (they really the wrong term for this) is only for the encryption part which applies to your Daz store.

The problem a lot of folks are having (aside from anti-drm types) is how the content is stored on your computer. There’s no way to move it, organise or back it up like before.

Yes, that much I found out last night after trying it out for the first time. I wish there was a way to specify your preference on where to store these files.

To use DAZ Connect that is with 4.9, you must log-in. YOu don’t have to if you don’t want to and you can still use the program. It’s optional at this time. I’m using 4.9 now and really have not issues whatsover, other than the encrypted only files, but that’s okay. I just won’t buy those and just continue using contents downloadable through DIM.
