According to Roman Mythology, The Furies (or Erinnyes in Greek mythology) were three apparitions that took vengeance on people who had done bad things, in the name of justice. There were three of them in total, named Alecto, Megaera and Tisiphone. They are usually depicted in classic Grecian and Roman art holding swords, with a serpent coiled around their arms. It was said they inhabited the entrance to the infernal realm of Tartarus (or the core of the underworld) It is written that the furies came into existence from drops of blood that spilled from the god Uranus, while doing battle with his son Kronus.
