Acacia is a genus of shrubs and trees belonging to the subfamily Mimosoideae of the family Fabaceae. The plants tend to be thorny and pod-bearing. The name derives from a??? (akis) which is Greek for a sharp point, due to the thorns in the type-species Acacia nilotica (“Nile Acacia”) from Egypt.
Referred to as Shittah in the Bible, it is also purportedly the wood used in the making of the Ark of the Covenant.
